American singer to wed long-term partner

Multi-award winning rock singer and songwriter Melissa Etheridge is set to make her marriage commitment to long-term partner Tammy Lynn Michaels official, according to the latest Hollywood reports.

The 47-year-old star has revealed plans to tie the knot with her partner of seven years, actress Tammy Lynn, following the California Supreme Court's ruling to legalise gay marriage this year.

Melissa told Extra: "We're trying to find the right time now actually to go down and do it - [that] is where we're at."

The couple already exchanged wedding vows in a commitment ceremony back in 2003.

An iconic gay activist, Melissa was one of the first stars to come out about her same-sex relationship 15 years ago.

She dated long-time love Julie Cypher between 1990 and 2000 and the pair have two children together, Bailey Jean, 11, and Beckett, ten.

Tammy and Melissa are parents to two-year-old twins Miller and Johnnie Rose.
