Couple commemorate 50 years of wedded bliss with a charity walk
A couple who are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary have commemorated the milestone by walking 50 miles - one for each year they have been wed.
Dennis and Marjorie Patient of Chattis Hill, Stockbridge, began their trek on Monday April 7th and have so far raised £2,000 for their chosen charities, Medicins Sans Frontieres and Marie Curie Cancer Cure, reports the Hampshire Chronicle.
Each day different friends accompanied them for a leg of the walk, which took them through Tichborne, Upham, Owslebury, Twyford, Hursley, Ampfield, Braishfield and back to Stockbridge.
Speaking to the news provider, Mr Patient said: "We have been lucky with our health, we have had good healthcare over 50 years and so we thought we would do something for someone else who had not been so lucky."
This follows news from the Herts Advertiser that a couple of generous newlyweds from St Albans have asked guest at their impending nuptials to sponsor them for the London marathon rather than buying them a gift.
