Ellen DeGeneres' "crazy" wedding planning

US chat show host Ellen DeGeneres has given her fiancee a pink diamond engagement ring.

Ally McBeal actress Portia de Rossi revealed her new jewellery on the red carpet recently, while Ellen told People magazine that they have set a date.

"Planning a wedding is very stressful," joked 50-year-old Ellen. "It is crazy. My gardener is now invited."

The pair announced their engagement on her chat show after the California supreme court lifted a ban on same-sex marriages.

"I can't wait to be married," Ellen said. "I feel like it is long overdue."

She added that although the date is still private, she and 35-year-old Portia are to have a "dream wedding", with "incredible" performers, some of which will be shown on her talk show.

Ellen also told People that she hopes one day, people will view the ban on gay marriage in the same way they do banning women the right to vote.
