Spend your honeymoon in Iceland's Blue Lagoon

Iceland is set to become increasingly popular among British newlyweds looking for a relaxing, once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon experience not too far from home, experts suggest.

Tom Hall, travel editor of Lonely Planet, said that the stunning outdoors attractions are what makes Iceland such a unique destination.

"Beyond the capital Iceland is best known for the steaming waters of the Blue Lagoon and the Gullfoss waterfall," he said.

"Iceland offers whale watching, winter sports and if you have your own wheels, towering waterfalls and hot springs that you can have pretty much to yourself."

According to Statistics Iceland, the number of foreign tourists visiting Iceland in 2007 increased by 60 per cent compared to the 2000 figures.

In addition, British tourists now get more for their money with "nearly 60 per cent more Icelandic Krona for a pound" compared to a year ago, meaning that cash-strapped newlyweds can still enjoy a great honeymoon for less.ADNFCR-1185-ID-18875343-ADNFCR
