Top wedding destinations revealed

It is becoming increasingly popular to go abroad to get married these days, with 16 per cent of first marriages taking place in a different country.

Though traditionally foreign weddings have been the domain of celebrities, with cheaper travel available, everyone is getting in on the action.

Now WeddingsAbroad.com has compiled a list of this season's hottest destinations to tie the knot in.

Malta is the first on the list, with this picturesque island's almost year-round sunshine being a major factor. It is possible to have a wedding in the Palazzo, which is steeped in historical beauty.

Also popular is getting married in one of the island's many churches, chapels, manors or estates.

Of course Italy will remain a perennial favourite, with its air of romance and vast choice of lovely locations, including Sicily, Sardinia, Florence and of course Rome.

Jamaica and Turkey also make the WeddingsAbroad.com list, due to their hot weather and long beaches.

Founded in 1999, WeddingsAbroad.com specialises in giving couples the perfect foreign wedding.
