The National Wedding Show is calling on all Brides to wear their wedding dress to work on the 17th September 2010 to raise vital funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. It doesn’t matter if you were married in 2010, 1970 or even if it’s still a work in progress… if you can find a dress (and fit into it!) we need you to get sponsored for wearing it.

For those women who would love to get involved but are not able to wear their wedding dress for the day, why not use a memento from your big day such as a tiara, veil or even your garter. All that is needed is a willingness to raise awareness and funds for the fight against this devastating disease.

Visit www.breakthrough.org.uk/bridesatwork for further information on how to get involved and take part

Fashion tips for your second big day

TV Fashion guru and host of the National Wedding Show’s bridal make-over show, Caryn Franklin offers her advice on how to get the look for Brides at Work Day; ‘This is a chance to get that dress out again and relive the big day, for a great cause. If you no longer have the dress or fit is a problem, here are my top tips for ‘Brides at Work Day’.

    • If that beloved gown is a tad tight, consider, sewing some satin ribbon where the fastening is so that you can use the ribbon as a tie and leave the original fastening open, then cover up with a cardigan or wrap. Also consider support underwear like a waist cincher to knock off an inch or two
    • If you don’t have the dress any longer, wear something else from the big day - your veil and tiara will make a great impact.  But don’t forget other accessories like shoes and garter
    • Hey Grooms, don’t leave fundraising all to the Brides…join in by wearing your suit, and button hole. Mums can wear their special outfits and for the less adventurous just the accessories will do hats, fascinators and corsages will hit the spot….and, Bridesmaids we are counting on you, so don’t miss your chance to dress up for the day too!
    • For Brides to be, don’t miss out on the action… invest in a novelty tiara and put your hair up and add to your daywear. Affordable fun tiara’s are readily available from the high street
    • Brides at Work is a chance to get dressed up for the day, in anything wedding related – have fun and raise money!
