Great wedding day skin doesn’t start the night before.

For mothers of the bride and groom, a little preparation can make all the difference. We spoke to Jillian Blair, facialist and founder of Jillian Blair Skin in London, to get her expert advice on preparing mature skin for the big day.

Start eight to twelve weeks before

Jillian recommends starting your wedding skincare preparation around eight to twelve weeks before the celebration.

This gives your skin time to respond to a consistent routine or professional treatments without trying to achieve dramatic results at the last minute.

Start by looking at what your skin needs now. Is texture becoming more uneven? Is pigmentation more noticeable? Or are hydration and firmness your main concerns?

Identify your priorities, then build a simple and consistent routine around them.

Your skin changes and your routine should too

Our skin naturally changes through our 40s, 50s and 60s.

In our 40s, cell turnover begins to slow, which can contribute to dullness and uneven texture. Pigmentation and previous sun damage may also become more visible.

Through our 50s, particularly during menopause, collagen decline can accelerate. Skin may lose some firmness and bounce, while changes in texture and pigmentation can become more noticeable.

By our 60s and beyond, skin naturally becomes thinner and more fragile.

You don’t need to completely change your skincare routine. Jillian recommends adapting it, with more focus on hydration, texture, tone and firmness, alongside daily SPF.

Make hydration your priority

If you want glowing skin for the wedding, hydration is key.

As we age, our skin becomes less efficient at holding onto water and natural oil production decreases. This can leave skin feeling drier and looking duller.

Well hydrated skin tends to look smoother, plumper and more even.

In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Jillian recommends Dr. Hauschka Hydrating Serum Plus to support hydration and smoother looking skin.

Keep your routine simple

Wedding skincare doesn’t need to be complicated. For Jillian, consistency is more important than the number of products you use.

She recommends starting with Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Cream, followed by Dr. Hauschka Hydrating Serum Plus and a moisturiser suited to your skin.

Add Dr. Hauschka Daily Hydrating Eye Cream around the eye area and always finish your daytime routine with SPF.

Using Hydrating Serum Plus morning and night gives your skin time to build and maintain hydration in the weeks before the wedding.

It also creates a smoother, more hydrated base for makeup and that natural wedding day glow.

What not to do before the wedding

The week of the wedding is not the time to experiment.

Avoid introducing a completely new facial, product or professional treatment. Even something considered gentle could cause unexpected redness or sensitivity.

Jillian also recommends avoiding excessive exfoliation in an attempt to quickly improve pigmentation or texture. Real changes take time and doing too much can leave skin reactive rather than radiant.

And don’t forget the basics. Travel, alcohol, stress and lack of sleep can quickly show up in your skin.

During those final few days, keep things simple, prioritise hydration and stick to the routine your skin already knows.
